Proposal to Form Government Negotiation Committee in National Dialogue Committee Meeting

*Islamabad:* A meeting of the National Dialogue Committee in Islamabad proposed the formation of a government negotiation committee in consultation with President Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The National Dialogue Committee meeting was attended by former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Liaquat Baloch and Sher Afzal Marwat, Barrister Saif, Imran Ismail, and Shehzad Waseem.

Discussions during the meeting focused on the procedures for government-opposition dialogue and measures to reduce political tensions. The committee’s statement suggested that an opposition committee be formed to work alongside political prisoners and expand the dialogue process.

It was proposed that the government negotiation committee be formed with the consultation of the President, Nawaz Sharif, and the Prime Minister. The statement also recommended the immediate appointment of opposition leaders in the Senate and National Assembly, the release of political activists to strengthen confidence in the government, ending media censorship, and dropping cases against political figures.

The committee agreed to continue the dialogue process, and the next National Dialogue Committee meeting will be held in Multan.
