Kiryana Association Announces Suspension of Sugar Sales Across Punjab

Lahore: The Kiryana Association has announced the suspension of sugar sales across Punjab due to the ongoing sugar crisis in the province. The Central Kiryana Merchant Association has expressed its inability to continue selling sugar at lower prices after purchasing it at higher rates.
Central President of the Association, Hafiz Arif Gujjar, stated that they cannot sell sugar at a lower price than what they bought it for. The government and administration have failed to provide sugar at the official price of 165 rupees per kilogram. While the government set the price of 165 rupees per kilogram at the sugar mills, it has failed to implement this properly.
According to the Association, sugar sales will remain suspended until a proper pricing mechanism is established between the mills, dealers, and Kiryana merchants. The administration has started sealing shops and imposing heavy fines instead of ensuring the supply of sugar at the government-set price.
Hafiz Arif Gujjar emphasized that if the government supplies sugar to them at the official price of 165 rupees per kilogram, they are willing to sell it at 173 rupees per kilogram. Starting from Tuesday, July 22, sugar sales will be suspended in Punjab.
