Peshawar High Court Summons Deputy Commissioner of Swabi Over Sharing Women’s University Video on TikTok

Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court has summoned the Deputy Commissioner of Swabi over allegations of sharing a video from Women’s University on the social media platform TikTok without permission.
According to reports from Express News, the court took up the petition against the Deputy Commissioner and Vice-Chancellor of Women’s University Swabi, ordering them to appear at the next hearing.
The two-member bench, comprising Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Justice Dr. Khurshid Iqbal, heard the case. The petitioner’s lawyer, Advocate Muhammad Hamdan, informed the court that the Deputy Commissioner of Swabi had shared the university’s video on his personal TikTok account, which violated regulations and affected the privacy of the female students. The lawyer further revealed that the local residents, along with the students, had raised objections to the act.
During the hearing, Justice Sahibzada Asadullah inquired from the Additional Advocate General, “What is going on?” The AAG replied that the government had already submitted its response. The court also asked about the position of Women’s University on the matter and why the Vice-Chancellor had not appeared in court.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that according to a government notification issued in 2018, government officials were only allowed to use X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, yet the Deputy Commissioner had uploaded the university’s videos on TikTok in 2025, which was a clear violation of the rules.
The court set the next hearing date for July 23, ordering both the Vice-Chancellor of Women’s University Swabi and the Deputy Commissioner of Swabi to appear in person.
