Government to Shut Down 27 YouTube Channels and Take Criminal Action Against Sensationalist YouTubers, Says Talal Chaudhry

Islamabad: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry announced that 27 YouTube channels, which are being shut down, are primarily operated by fugitives who spread sensational content to gain money and increase ratings. He also emphasized that criminal action would be taken against these YouTubers.
In a conversation with journalists in Islamabad, Talal Chaudhry criticized the practice of using social media platforms to spread chaos and sensationalism for financial gain. He stated that these individuals would face criminal consequences for violating laws designed to maintain order and integrity on social media.
He also took a swipe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, accusing him of repeatedly seeking an amnesty (NRO) and claiming that his in-laws in Israel are “suffering” due to his legal troubles. Chaudhry remarked that Khan’s children should return to Pakistan to understand the consequences of their father’s actions.
Commenting on the court’s decision to close down the 27 YouTube channels, the minister said that Pakistan has laws in place, and everyone must adhere to them. “There are cyber laws all over the world, and you cannot use social media platforms for spreading chaos,” Chaudhry emphasized.
When asked about the lack of hearings for many of the affected channels, Chaudhry responded by calling them “fugitives” who profit from spreading sensationalism to increase their ratings. He said that legitimate vloggers who follow journalistic ethics do not receive as much attention or financial reward compared to those who thrive on spreading disruption.
Talal Chaudhry further added that criminal action would soon be initiated against these YouTubers who exploit the platform for their personal gain, spreading confusion and turmoil in the process.
