Pakistan Claims India Involved in Terrorism, Welcomes Arbitration Court’s Ruling on Indus Waters Treaty

Islamabad: Pakistan has reiterated that India is involved in terrorism, with many militants operating inside Afghanistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that terrorism remains the core issue in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.
During a weekly press briefing, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the interim ruling by the arbitration court regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. The court issued its decision after India’s illegal suspension of the treaty, reaffirming that the treaty remains valid and operational. The ruling makes it clear that India has no right to unilaterally take action regarding the Indus Waters Treaty.
The spokesperson stated that the interim decision validates Pakistan’s stance and urged India to adhere to its obligations under the treaty and maintain normal operations. Pakistan calls on India to fulfill its responsibilities in accordance with the treaty.
In addition, the spokesperson announced that the lists of Indian and Pakistani prisoners were exchanged on July 1 under the 2008 Consular Access Agreement. Pakistan handed over a list of 246 prisoners to the Indian High Commission. In return, India provided a list of Pakistani prisoners to the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. Pakistan urged India to ensure the safety and well-being of Pakistani prisoners in Indian custody.
The spokesperson also mentioned that the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit was held in Azerbaijan, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led the Pakistani delegation and presented Pakistan’s position. On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister held meetings with other regional leaders.
Furthermore, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has been in contact with his Turkish counterpart, and the Turkish Foreign Minister is expected to visit Pakistan soon. Details of the visit will be shared shortly.
The spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan aims to improve its relationship with Afghanistan but pointed out that terrorism continues to be a significant challenge in bilateral ties. Pakistan also shared concerns with Afghanistan regarding the presence of terrorists operating from within Afghan territory, and underlined that India is involved in supporting these terrorist activities.
