Decision to Increase Leave Allowance After Salary Hike for Ministers
Ministers, Speaker, and Deputy Speaker’s Leave Allowance to Be Equal to Their Salary

Lahore: Following the recent hike in salaries for ministers, the Punjab government has decided to also increase the leave allowance for ministers, the speaker, and deputy speaker. According to reports, the government has decided to make the leave allowance equal to the monthly salary of these officials.
In this regard, the Punjab Assembly has approved the Punjab Public Representatives Laws (Amendment) Bill 2025 during the recent session. Under this amendment, changes will be made to the Punjab Ministers (Salary, Allowances, Privileges) Act 1975.
The new amendments stipulate that there will be no salary deduction during leaves. Previously, when a provincial minister with a salary of 100,000 PKR took one month off, they would receive a leave allowance of only 74,000 PKR. After the amendment, these ministers will now receive their full salary, amounting to 960,000 PKR for a month off.
Similarly, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, whose salary was 125,000 PKR, previously received only 37,000 PKR for a month of leave. Now, the Speaker will receive the full salary of 950,000 PKR for the same duration.
The Deputy Speaker, earning 120,000 PKR, would get 37,000 PKR during a month of leave. Post-amendment, the Deputy Speaker will also receive their full salary of 775,000 PKR.
These amendments come as a necessary adjustment following the recent increase in ministers’ salaries, as the current leave allowances were still based on the old salary structure.
