Flash Flood Tragedy in Swat River: 7 Dead, 6 Missing After 16 Swept Away

Peshawar: At least 7 people lost their lives and 6 others remain missing after a powerful flash flood swept through the Swat River following heavy monsoon rains in the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Rescue teams managed to save 3 individuals, while a large-scale search operation continues.
According to Shah Fahad, Director General of Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reports were received of multiple people being swept away in the floodwaters, prompting an immediate rescue response. So far, the bodies of 7 victims have been recovered. Over 120 personnel from Rescue 1122 are engaged in the ongoing operation, battling strong currents and challenging conditions.
Local sources confirmed that a total of 16 individuals were caught in the flood. Of these, three were rescued alive, seven have been confirmed dead, and six are still unaccounted for.
Tragically, 10 of the victims belonged to the same family from Daska, Sialkot. The family members include Aieshal, Infaal, Meera, Aima, Ayan, Nimra, and Sharmin. Other victims identified are Ajwa, Abdullah, and Rubina from the same family, while Muizullah from Karachi is also among the missing or deceased.
Flood Cell Established Amid Emergency
In response to the disaster, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has ordered the establishment of a flood emergency cell. Flood Alert Issued for Charsadda
With the water discharge in Swat River at Khwazakhela rising to 77,782 cusecs — classified as a high-level flood — a flood alert has been issued for Charsadda district, especially near Khiali where the river passes through. Authorities have placed all relevant personnel on high alert.
National Leaders Express Condolences
Prime Minister and President of Pakistan expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives. The Prime Minister prayed for the departed souls and strength for the bereaved families. He also directed NDMA and local authorities to intensify safety measures around rivers and flood-prone areas.
The President extended heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for patience and peace for those affected by the tragedy.
Rescue Operations in Lower Dir
Separately, five individuals — including two women, two children, and one man — were stranded in seasonal streams in Munda and Khazana areas of Lower Dir. Rescue 1122 and other welfare organizations have launched operations to safely evacuate them.
