Pakistan

Army Strict with Citizens but Lenient with Enemies,” Says Witness; Questions Accountability in High-Profile Firing Incident

Islamabad – A civilian who has been attending military court sessions over the past two years shared observations highlighting a perceived disparity in how the army deals with ordinary citizens versus powerful figures. The witness stated that while the military courts impose strict punishments on common individuals, they appear more lenient when it comes to influential persons or enemies.
The individual cited the case of Hassan Niazi, who was reportedly punished simply for waving his trouser, as an example of harsh treatment towards citizens. However, the witness expressed surprise that despite reports of firing outside a corps commander’s residence by Nawaz Sharif’s nephew, no accountability has been observed in this serious incident to date.
“This inconsistency raises questions about equal application of the law and justice,” the witness remarked, emphasizing the need for transparency and impartiality in both military and civil judicial processes.
The statement sheds light on growing public concerns about fairness and accountability within Pakistan’s legal and military institutions. Calls are increasing for thorough investigations and equal enforcement of the law, irrespective of an individual’s status or connections.
As the debate over justice and military accountability continues, many urge reforms to restore public confidence and ensure that no one remains above the law.
