Mina Majid Pledges Support for Water and Sanitation Projects in Balochistan Following Meeting with HOPE Organization and Water Sanitation Network

QUETTA:Representatives from HOPE Organization and the Water Sanitation Network held a crucial meeting with the Advisor to the Government of Balochistan for Sports and Youth Affairs, Mrs. Mina Majid, to discuss the inclusion of water and sanitation schemes in the upcoming Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2025-26.

The meeting, which also included prominent social and tribal leader and President of the Water Sanitation Network, Mir Bahram Lehri, and senior journalist Mir Bahram Baloch, focused on raising awareness about water and sanitation issues in Balochistan and securing attention from both the government and public representatives.

Mrs. Mina Majid praised the delegation’s efforts and emphasized that, being from the Turbat area of Balochistan, she considers water and sanitation issues not just a problem in Quetta but across the entire province. She stated that many other districts in the province are also deprived of basic water and sanitation facilities, which require immediate attention.

As a female parliamentarian, she pointed out that women are disproportionately affected by the lack of water and sanitation, as these issues directly impact their daily tasks and overall health and hygiene. She emphasized that resolving these problems not only leads to development but also contributes to the well-being of women in the province.

She assured the delegation that their recommendations would be incorporated into the upcoming budget meetings, and she would strive to facilitate a comprehensive discussion in the Balochistan Assembly to allocate appropriate budgets according to the needs of each district.

Mrs. Majid also highlighted the urgent need for public awareness campaigns regarding water and sanitation, stressing that the community must take responsibility for cleanliness, water conservation, and responsible usage.

She lauded the Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) project proposed by HOPE, calling it a positive and sustainable step. She expressed her desire for the government and HOPE to collaborate under a public-private partnership to find a long-term solution to these enduring issues.

At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Mina Majid was presented with a shield and souvenirs in recognition of her services, and a commemorative cake was cut to mark the occasion.
