Asia Cup 2025 Likely to Be Moved from India Amid Indo-Pak Tensions

Lahore: Due to ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India, the hosting rights of the Asia Cup 2025 may be taken away from India, according to media reports.
Originally, India was slated to host the tournament this year. However, due to India’s refusal to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, reports suggest that Pakistan may now play all its matches at a neutral venue.
In addition to the Asia Cup, India is also scheduled to host the Women’s World Cup 2025 and the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. However, recent developments have cast doubts over the feasibility of hosting these events in India without disruptions.
As per the reports, the Asia Cup—scheduled for September—may now be moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a neutral venue due to the strained political climate. It is expected that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will finalize UAE as the new venue, though India will remain the official host nation.
The 2025 edition of the Asia Cup will be played in T20 format as part of preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament is set to span two weeks and will feature a total of 19 matches.
Meanwhile, ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to make an official announcement regarding the tournament’s future soon.
In a related development, talks are ongoing about a possible tri-nation series involving Pakistan, Afghanistan, and UAE to be held in the Emirates prior to the Asia Cup. However, no final decision has been made on that proposal yet.
