Fawad Chaudhry’s Name Removed from Travel Ban List, Contempt Case Disposed by IHC

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday disposed of a contempt of court petition filed by PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry after the federal government complied with the court’s directive to remove his name from the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL).
The case was heard by Justice Inam Amin Minhas, where Deputy Attorney General Faisal Irfan informed the court that Fawad Chaudhry’s name had officially been removed from the travel restriction list.
Expressing gratitude to the court, Fawad took the rostrum and said with a smile, “You know where we want to go — we want to stay here and play our role in the opposition.” Justice Minhas replied humorously, “You really pushed them to get your name removed.”
Speaking to the media outside the court, Fawad Chaudhry emphasized the importance of dialogue between PTI and the establishment. “The establishment is a major political reality in Pakistan and should be part of the national dialogue,” he said.
He admitted that PTI suffered from a lack of communication, saying, “We hurt ourselves by severing contacts. Some in the party suggest those who maintain contacts should be expelled — but it’s those very contacts that bring wisdom.”
Fawad also drew a distinction between genuine political engagement and opportunism: “Those using connections for personal gain should be condemned. If someone like Muhammad Zubair maintains dialogue, that should be appreciated.”
He concluded by saying that PTI’s founder will not come out of legal troubles through the courts alone but through a broader political strategy.
