Bilawal Bhutto Leads Pakistani Delegation in UN Meeting, Presents Pakistan’s Case Against India

New York:Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, **Bilawal Bhutto Zardari**, led a Pakistani delegation that met with **United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres** at the UN Headquarters in New York. During the high-level meeting, the delegation presented Pakistan’s official stance on recent tensions with India.
Bilawal Bhutto submitted a letter from the **Prime Minister of Pakistan** to the Secretary-General and appreciated Mr. Guterres’ continued emphasis on **restraint, dialogue, and diplomacy**.
He briefed the Secretary-General on Pakistan’s position following the **April 22, 2025 Pahalgam incident**, firmly rejecting India’s premature and unsubstantiated accusations against Pakistan made without credible investigation or evidence.
Bilawal expressed strong concern over **India’s unilateral military actions**, including attacks on civilians, destruction of civilian infrastructure, and the unilateral suspension of the **Indus Waters Treaty**, calling them **dangerous moves** that could destabilize the entire region.
He warned that India is attempting to impose a **”new normal”** in the region—marked by unilateralism, the use of force, and impunity—which could lead to a **major conflict in a nuclear environment**.
The Pakistani delegation urged the Secretary-General to play an **active role in de-escalating tensions**, promoting dialogue between Pakistan and India, and restoring the **Indus Waters Treaty**. Bilawal stressed the urgent need for **comprehensive dialogue on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute**, highlighting it as key to long-term peace in South Asia.
The delegation also provided a detailed briefing on the **humanitarian consequences** of suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, **India’s unwarranted aggression**, and violations of the **UN Charter** and **international law**, expressing concern that Pakistan is being subjected to **water warfare**.
In response, Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed Pakistan’s commitment to peace and reaffirmed the United Nations’ strong interest in promoting peace, restraint, and diplomacy in the region. He assured the delegation that the UN would continue supporting all efforts aimed at de-escalation and peaceful conflict resolution in accordance with the **UN Charter** and relevant **Security Council resolutions**.
