Key PTI Leaders Sentenced to 27 Years in Prison in May 9 Ramna Police Station Attack Case

Islamabad (INP): An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has sentenced Member of the National Assembly Abdul Latif and former Member of the Provincial Assembly Wazir Zada, along with nine other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, to 27 years in prison for attacking the Ramna Police Station on May 9, 2023.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra announced the verdict, convicting the PTI leaders under various legal provisions. Four accused — Muhammad Akram, Meera Khan, Shahzaib, and Sohail Khan — who were present in court, were taken into custody immediately following the verdict. Arrest warrants were issued for the absconding suspects.
According to the court ruling, the sentences include:
5 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 each for attempted murder of police personnel.
4 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 40,000 each for setting motorcycles on fire.
4 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 40,000 each for torching the police station.
3 months imprisonment for obstructing police duties.
1 month imprisonment for violating Section 144.
2 years imprisonment for unlawful assembly.
10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 200,000 each under anti-terrorism charges.
The judge emphasized that protest must be peaceful and warned that attacking state institutions, especially police stations, poses a severe threat to law and order. Testimonies from 20 witnesses, including magistrates, were recorded during the trial.
