Pakistani Ambassador in US Says Pakistan Ready to Act as Regional Connector Like Mexico

Washington, D.C:Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, **Rizwan Saeed Sheikh**, stated that Pakistan is well-positioned and prepared to play the role of a regional connector country similar to Mexico. He made these remarks while addressing American policymakers, diplomats, and the business community at the Washington World Trade Center.
Ambassador Sheikh emphasized that promoting economic relations is his top priority. He highlighted that the trade deficit between Pakistan and the US is very low and can easily be balanced. Pakistan is the largest importer of American cotton and also imports soybeans from the US, indicating strong trade links.
He invited American investors to take full advantage of the economic opportunities available in Pakistan, especially in sectors like agriculture, information technology (IT), and mineral resources. The ambassador pointed out that Pakistan offers IT services that are up to 70% cheaper than those in the US while maintaining high quality.
The Pakistani government is focused on making it easier for investors and the business community to operate, providing a favorable environment and necessary facilities as a priority.
Ambassador Sheikh also cited the success of over 80 American companies operating in Pakistan for decades as proof of Pakistan’s status as a profitable market. With a population of 250 million, Pakistan represents a large market in the region for American investors.
Regarding recent tensions between Pakistan and India, the ambassador remarked that India’s provocative and aggressive actions came at a time when Pakistan was focused on economic progress. While proud of the nation’s effective response, he stressed that Pakistan’s foremost priority remains peace, which is essential for economic growth.
This statement underlines Pakistan’s eagerness to strengthen bilateral trade ties and invite foreign investment to boost its economy and regional connectivity.
