“Enough is Enough”: Pakistan Urges UN to Stop Genocide in Gaza

United Nations: Pakistan has made an urgent appeal to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take immediate and concrete action to halt the ongoing genocide in Gaza. In a forceful statement, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, said the world can no longer remain silent in the face of Israeli atrocities and the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Speaking during a UNSC briefing on the Middle East, particularly the situation in Palestine, the Pakistani envoy posed a critical question: “How many more atrocities must be committed before this Council acts in accordance with moral, legal, and UN Charter obligations?”
Ambassador Akram warned the international community that the world can no longer afford even a single day of inaction. “History will not absolve us of our responsibility,” he said, urging the Council to act swiftly, decisively, and in line with its mandate.
He described the situation in Gaza as a “man-made catastrophe” resulting from Israel’s prolonged blockade, relentless bombings, and indiscriminate attacks on civilians. According to the ambassador, over 54,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed, and more than 122,000 injured. “This is an unimaginable and indescribable human tragedy,” he stressed.
Highlighting key humanitarian concerns, the Pakistani representative noted:
Over 800 medical facilities have been targeted.
Hospitals lack basic supplies, and attacks on medical staff and ambulances continue.
57 children have died from starvation.
Humanitarian convoys are either blocked or attacked.
Over 80% of homes have been destroyed, and essential infrastructure — water, electricity, communication — is in ruins.
More than 28,000 women and girls have been killed, and 50,000 pregnant women are forced to give birth under inhumane conditions.
Ambassador Akram also expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation in the West Bank, where demolitions, violent operations, and severe movement restrictions have become routine. He condemned provocative visits by Israeli officials to Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning that such actions could inflame regional tensions.
Pakistan demanded the UNSC ensure full implementation of Resolution 2735, halt all attacks on civilians, guarantee unrestricted humanitarian access, end forced displacements, and push for a just two-state solution, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as the capital of an independent Palestinian state.
The envoy endorsed the upcoming international conference on Palestine, jointly hosted by France and Saudi Arabia in June, calling it a crucial opportunity for a political resolution. He stressed that a unified and immediate international response is not only essential for the Palestinian people but also for the credibility of the UN and the global conscience.
Concluding his speech, the ambassador made Pakistan’s position unmistakably clear: “There is no room left for ambiguity. There can be no justification for the suffering of the Palestinian people. Yes — enough is enough.”
