PSL 10: Poor Bowling Raises Fitness Concerns Over Naseem Shah, Say Former Cricketers

LAHORE:Concerns over **Naseem Shah’s fitness** have resurfaced following his lackluster performance in the 10th edition of the **Pakistan Super League (PSL)**, where batters have consistently dominated him. Cricket analysts and former players have questioned whether the young pacer is fully fit, particularly after his underwhelming showing in a recent match against Lahore.
During a discussion on a private TV channel, **former national wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal** pointed out that despite being hit hard in the death overs, Naseem failed to bowl even a single yorker—typically a go-to delivery under pressure. “Bowling yorkers requires power and full fitness, and it’s evident Naseem isn’t at his best physically,” Akmal claimed.
He further suggested that Naseem should be **rested for the upcoming series against Bangladesh**, questioning why young players are not being given a chance against a team recently defeated by the UAE. “In 2020 and 2021, Naseem bowled yorkers confidently because he was fully fit. Now, he avoids them, relying on slower balls—and that’s why he’s getting punished,” Akmal added.
**Former cricketer Basit Ali** also weighed in, questioning Naseem’s selection in the national squad if current form is the main criterion. “If selection is being made based on recent performances, then how does Naseem make the cut?” he asked.
The comments come amid growing public debate around **player workload management and injury recovery**, especially as Pakistan prepares for crucial international fixtures. While Naseem remains one of Pakistan’s most promising fast bowlers, experts emphasize that **fitness and form** must align for sustained international success.
