Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett Smashes Fastest Test Century for His Country Against England at Trent Bridge

Nottingham:Zimbabwean opener **Brian Bennett** made history on Day 2 of the ongoing Test match against England at **Trent Bridge**, scoring a brilliant and record-breaking century that earned him multiple accolades.
England, batting first, declared their innings at **565/6**, powered by centuries from **Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Ollie Pope**. In response, Zimbabwe’s innings started poorly, losing opener **Ben Curran** at just 31 runs.
However, Bennett held firm and launched a counterattack against the English bowlers, reaching his century in **just 97 balls**, making it the **fastest Test century ever by a Zimbabwean player**. He broke the previous record held by **Sean Williams**, who scored a 106-ball century against New Zealand in 2016.
Bennett also became only the **third Zimbabwean batter to score a Test century against England**, and the **first to do so in the last 25 years**. The last Zimbabwean to achieve this feat was **Murray Goodwin**, who scored an unbeaten 148 at the same ground back in 2000.
Adding to his personal achievements, this was **Bennett’s second Test century**, and it placed him among **Zimbabwe’s top 10 century-makers** in Test cricket history. **Legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Andy Flower** leads that list with 12 centuries.
Despite his heroics, Zimbabwe was bowled out for **265 runs in 63.2 overs**, trailing by **300 runs**. Bennett was the standout performer, scoring **139 runs off just 133 balls**, including **26 fours**, showcasing both aggression and class.
His performance has sparked hope for Zimbabwean cricket, signaling the arrival of a potential star in the red-ball format.
