Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court Allows Polygraph and Voice Matching Tests for Imran Khan in May 9 Cases

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has issued a written order permitting polygraph, photogrammetric, and voice matching tests of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder **Imran Khan** in connection with the May 9 violence cases.
The six-page written decision, issued by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul, states that such scientific tests can benefit both the **accused** and the **prosecution**. The court emphasized that these tests could help determine the truth behind the allegations and distinguish between valuable and irrelevant evidence.
### Key Details:
* The court directed the **investigating officer** to complete all tests by **May 26**.
* The **Superintendent of Adiala Jail** has been ordered to arrange for the tests to be conducted within the jail premises.
* The court noted that Imran Khan had **refused to receive the notices** sent through jail authorities regarding the tests.
Imran Khan’s legal team, led by **Barrister Salman Safdar**, strongly opposed the prosecution’s request, arguing that the application for such tests was submitted nearly **two years** after the incident, indicating alleged **malicious intent**.
In response, the prosecution maintained that they had approached **multiple courts** earlier seeking permission for polygraph testing and that they had filed **12 similar applications** in this regard. The judge observed that this showed the prosecution was not trying to **delay** the proceedings but was actively pursuing legal avenues.
The court also acknowledged the seriousness of the accusations related to the **May 9 incidents**, which followed Imran Khan’s initial arrest in 2023 and resulted in widespread protests and violence. The prosecution argued that scientific tests were crucial to uncover the facts surrounding the former prime minister’s alleged role.
The court adjourned proceedings until **May 14** and directed the investigating officer to submit a progress report on the tests at the next hearing.
