Pakistan Urges Global Action After Ceasefire, Calls Kashmir Dispute Root Cause of Regional Instability

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong statement following the recent India-Pakistan ceasefire, urging the international community to address the Kashmir dispute and warning that continued Indian aggression could destabilize not only South Asia but global peace.

In a formal statement released after both countries agreed to a ceasefire on May 10, Pakistan emphasized the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute. The ministry said that Pakistan had no choice but to respond to India’s unprovoked attacks in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, launching **Operation Bunyān Mursūs** in retaliation.

### **India’s Escalation and Pakistan’s Measured Response**

According to the statement, India launched a series of missile and drone attacks between May 6 and May 10, targeting civilian areas and key infrastructure. These assaults resulted in the deaths of innocent women, children, and the elderly, and damaged places of worship and public infrastructure.

Despite suffering these losses, Pakistan said it responded with “restraint and precision,” deliberately avoiding civilian casualties and instead targeting only Indian military installations that were directly involved in the aggression. These included airbases from which unprovoked BrahMos missile attacks were launched.

### **‘Not Just a Border Clash – A Wider Geopolitical Threat’**

The ministry warned that the crisis should not be viewed as a routine border conflict but as part of a larger geopolitical competition affecting regional security. It added that repeated Indian provocations reflect a broader pattern aimed at exploiting Pakistan’s anti-terrorism commitments, especially along its western front.

“The Kashmir dispute remains at the heart of South Asia’s strategic instability,” the statement said, adding that India has falsely equated the Kashmiris’ legitimate struggle for self-determination with terrorism. It also accused New Delhi of attempting to externalize internal resistance while trying to internalize the internationally recognized Kashmir issue.

### **India’s Hybrid Warfare and Disinformation Campaign**

The statement accused India of waging a hybrid war against Pakistan using proxies and disinformation, particularly during moments when Pakistan was close to major breakthroughs against terrorism. “This malicious cycle must end,” it read.

Pakistan warned that diverting its focus from counterterrorism at this crucial time could pose grave risks to regional and global peace. It said India’s actions aim to keep Pakistan engaged on multiple fronts and prevent progress and national recovery.

### **Pakistan’s Global Role in Counterterrorism**

Highlighting its unparalleled sacrifices in the global fight against terrorism since 9/11, Pakistan reminded the world of its resilient response to the fallout of the Cold War and extremism. The ministry said Pakistan had emerged as a critical bulwark against radical ideologies, and that its efforts must not be undermined by Indian falsehoods.

### **Call for International Engagement and Support**

The statement called on the global community to prevent India from misusing the “terrorism” label for its strategic objectives. It warned that the destabilizing policies of New Delhi—like the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and interference in water treaties—were unacceptable.

“Pakistan seeks constructive diplomacy and comprehensive dialogue with India,” the statement said, reiterating Islamabad’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and regional cooperation. It also urged world powers to play a more proactive role in defusing tensions and ensuring lasting peace in South Asia.

### **‘A Sacred Responsibility’ to Protect Sovereignty**

The Ministry emphasized that all elements of Pakistan’s national power remain committed to protecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “Our armed forces will take all necessary steps to defend the homeland and uphold our vital national interests,” the statement concluded.

While welcoming the ceasefire, the Foreign Office stressed that it must be seen in the right context and cannot substitute for a long-term solution. The core issues—including the Kashmir dispute—must be addressed with urgency, or risk plunging the region back into instability.
