Emergency UN Security Council Meeting Convened on Pakistan’s Request Over Rising Tensions with India

New York:In a significant diplomatic move, the United Nations Security Council has called an emergency session at the request of Pakistan to address escalating tensions in the region, particularly regarding India’s provocative actions. Pakistan aims to alert the international community to the growing threats to regional peace and security posed by India’s actions.
During the session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, will brief the Security Council on India’s increasing aggression. The briefing will focus on recent developments, including military movements along the Line of Control (LoC) and the false flag operation in Pahalgam, which have raised alarms in the international community.
Ambassador Iftikhar confirmed that, in accordance with the instructions of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, formal notification was sent to the Security Council, calling for the urgent meeting. “We are acting on this directive, and whenever such appeals are made, they carry significant weight in the global system,” Iftikhar said.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed, also commented on the situation, noting that the U.S. administration shares concerns over the rising tensions. “It is well-known that conflicts originating in South Asia rarely remain confined to the region. The U.S. has a prominent role in global security, and we expect them to play a constructive part in de-escalating the situation,” Saeed emphasized.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s High Commissioner in the United Kingdom, Dr. Faisal, issued a pointed statement, emphasizing that the core issue is not Pahalgam or Pulwama, but Jammu and Kashmir itself. “Until the Kashmir issue is resolved in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, the dream of peace between India and Pakistan will remain unfulfilled,” Dr. Faisal said.
Pakistan has warned the international community that India’s continuous provocations, especially recent military activities along the LoC and other destabilizing operations, are not only threatening the peace of the region but also risk igniting a major conflict.
At the UN session, Pakistan will present evidence of India’s regional policies and emphasize that a fair and lasting resolution to the Kashmir issue is essential for long-term peace in South Asia. The meeting is expected to bring heightened global attention to the ongoing crisis and Pakistan’s stance on the matter.
