Tandoor Owners in Quetta Ignore Government Set Rates, Continue Overcharging the Public; Protest at Press Club

Quetta – Tandoor owners in various areas of Quetta have continued to defy the government-set rates, further reducing the weight of the traditional roti (bread) while overcharging the public. Despite a crackdown by the district administration, the tandoor owners staged a protest at the Quetta Press Club, demanding to impose higher rates and further reduce the weight of the bread.
The district administration had issued a price list, fixing the price of a 360-gram roti at 30 rupees. However, the tandoor owners rejected this rate and insisted on raising the price to 40 rupees while reducing the weight to 280 grams. In response, the administration took action, sealing several tandoors found violating the official price regulations.
Following the crackdown, the Bakers Association set up a protest camp outside the Quetta Press Club, calling for permission to increase their earnings. They also demanded that the price of roti be raised to 40 rupees, along with further reduction in weight. The public, however, has rejected both the price hike and the protest, urging the administration to take strict action against those violating the set rates.
