Ali Tareen Raises Serious Concerns Over PSL’s Future, Criticizes PCB’s Management

Lahore: Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has once again raised serious questions over the future of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), criticizing the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not managing the league up to international standards.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tareen called the current structure and scheduling of the PSL “unacceptable” and claimed that the league is suffering due to its overlap with the Indian Premier League (IPL), which results in the absence of top international players.
Ali Tareen urged the PCB to shift the PSL to a winter window to avoid clashing with the IPL and suggested replacing the current draft system with an auction model, aligning with global practices.
He questioned whether the league could continue to attract big international names like Darren Sammy and Shane Watson in the next decade, as it did in its early years.
Tareen also highlighted the financial challenges faced by his franchise since its acquisition, stating that Multan Sultans has operated at a loss. He stressed that franchise valuations should be equal and hinted that he might reconsider his bid if prices are raised.
Despite the strong criticism, the PCB has not yet issued an official response to Tareen’s statements.
