Islamabad Ranked Safer Than London, New York, Sydney, and Toronto in Global Safety Index

Islamabad – The federal capital of Pakistan has outperformed several major global cities in terms of safety, according to the latest Safety Index report by the international data platform Numbeo. The report, which assessed 380 cities worldwide, ranked Islamabad safer than cities like London, New York, Oslo, Sydney, Moscow, Toronto, and Barcelona.
Islamabad scored 67.9 on the Safety Index, placing it at the 93rd position globally. This significant recognition comes after the United Nations also declared Islamabad a “family station” for its staff, acknowledging its improving security environment.
Under the leadership of Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, Islamabad Police has made notable progress in crime reduction. During the years 2024 and 2025, the capital witnessed a remarkable 20% decrease in crime compared to previous years.
The year 2025 saw 600 fewer criminal incidents compared to 2024, a result of effective policing, dedication of officers and personnel, and strategic operations. A comprehensive crackdown was launched against drug traffickers, alcohol distributors, and other criminal elements.
In addition, the Islamabad Police initiated a public awareness campaign titled “Nasha! Ab Nahin” (No More Drugs) to combat substance abuse. A targeted operation to eliminate illegal weapons also led to numerous arrests, weapon seizures, and the registration of criminal cases.
These achievements reflect Islamabad Police’s ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of the city’s residents.
