Karachi Heatwave Subsides, Sea Breezes Bring Relief, But High Humidity Persists

Karachi:The intense heat and heatwave that have gripped Karachi for the past several days have finally started to subside, with the return of sea breezes providing some much-needed relief. The temperature is expected to range between **36 to 38°C** today, Thursday, but due to high humidity, the **feels-like temperature** will still hover between **39 to 42°C**.
Meteorologists have confirmed that the current heatwave has come to an end, thanks to the **southwest winds** blowing at a speed of **15 to 20 km/h**. These winds are expected to strengthen in the evening and night, reaching **30 to 36 km/h**, providing some comfort to the residents. However, despite this improvement, the **high humidity levels** — ranging from **50 to 80 percent** — continue to make the heat feel more intense and dangerous.
The Meteorological Department has warned that although the heatwave has ended, **high humidity** combined with the warm temperatures could still pose a health risk to citizens, especially during the peak heat hours.
### Health Precautions and Safety Advice
Health experts have advised the public to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, particularly during the hottest parts of the day. It is recommended that individuals **cover their heads** when outside, **stay hydrated**, and consume **lemon water**, **ORS** (oral rehydration salts), and light foods to prevent **heatstroke** and **dehydration**.
Parents and school authorities have been urged to ensure that children remain in **cool, well-ventilated environments**, as the **feels-like temperature** could still reach up to **42°C**. Similarly, office workers are reminded to stay well-hydrated to avoid any heat-related health issues.
### Power Outages Add to Discomfort
While the return of sea breezes has provided some respite, **power outages** continue to be reported in several areas, exacerbating the discomfort caused by the lingering humidity. Residents have urged **K-Electric** to take immediate action to address the situation and provide uninterrupted electricity to prevent further hardship during the summer heat.
Overall, while the heatwave has eased, the combination of high temperatures and humidity still requires caution, and citizens must take extra steps to protect their health.
