WhatsApp Introduces Message Translation Feature for Beta Users on Android

WhatsApp has been working on a translation feature for chat messages and channel updates since last year. This feature has now been introduced in the **beta version** for **Android devices**.
According to a report by **WABetaInfo**, the translation feature is currently available for some beta users and is expected to be rolled out to more beta users in the coming weeks.
The feature supports translations in **Spanish**, **Arabic**, **Portuguese**, **Hindi**, and **Russian**. One of the key highlights of this feature is that it doesn’t require an internet connection for translating text. Users only need to download the desired language pack, after which they can translate text offline.
The language pack will automatically detect the language of incoming messages and translate them. Users will need to enable this feature manually, by navigating to the **chat section** in the settings. Here, users can select which languages they would like to have translated automatically.
The feature can be used for both **one-on-one chats** and **group chats**. If users don’t want messages to be translated automatically, they can click on the **Translate** option in the message settings to disable it.
However, the report suggests that users should not fully rely on these translations, as WhatsApp will be using **lightweight language packs** on the device to perform translations. Nonetheless, WhatsApp will continuously improve the translations based on user feedback over time.
