Fake Calls Impersonating PTA to Steal Personal and Financial Information: Public Alert

Islamabad:A new **fraudulent scheme** has surfaced where **scammers** are using the name of **Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)** to deceive citizens and steal their **personal and financial information**.
According to reports, the scam typically begins with an **automated call** featuring a female voice, stating: *”Assalam-o-Alaikum, this call is from PTA.”* The call claims that a **complaint has been received against your number**, which has been verified, and warns that if immediate information is not provided, all SIM cards registered in your name will be **blocked within two hours**.
The scammers then proceed to instruct you, much like **automated bank calls**, to press *”9″*. Once you do, they begin asking for sensitive details, including your **National Identity Card number**, **bank account information**, and other personal data, threatening that failure to comply will result in **suspension of your phone service**.
It is important to note that **these calls are fraudulent**, and the **PTA** is **not involved** in any such activities. The objective of these scams is to **steal money** from people’s bank accounts or **illegally misuse their identity**.
### **What Should You Do?**
– **Immediately disconnect** the call if you receive it.
– Never share any **personal or financial details** during such calls.
– Report the incident to **FIA** (Federal Investigation Agency) and **PTA**.
– **Alert your friends and family** about this scam.
– Protect yourself and **advise others** to stay cautious.
**Stay vigilant and protect your information**—don’t let scammers take advantage of you or your loved ones.
