Former President Arif Alvi Backs Dialogue, Emphasizes Political Resolution for Balochistan

Washington/Islamabad:Former President of Pakistan **Arif Alvi** has voiced strong support for political dialogue, particularly in the context of the upcoming elections and the long-standing issues in **Balochistan**. Speaking to **CNN during his visit to the United States**, Alvi stated that any initiative for negotiations regarding future elections would be welcomed.

He stressed that **dialogue is the only viable path to resolving the Balochistan issue**, pointing out that the province’s youth is increasingly disillusioned due to a lack of representation and unheard voices.

Referring to the **February 8 general elections**, Alvi claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won in Balochistan, but their **votes were undercounted**. He asserted that had the votes been counted accurately, PTI would have formed the government not only in Balochistan but across all provinces.

Highlighting the current political atmosphere in Pakistan, the former president criticized the suppression of protests through force and **called out the restrictions on media**, stating that **print, electronic, and social media are not free** in the country, contributing to growing public frustration.

Meanwhile, **PTI leader Azam Swati** expressed optimism about progress in negotiations with state institutions. He indicated that **Arif Alvi’s return to Pakistan could pave the way for meaningful dialogue and breakthroughs**, hinting at behind-the-scenes efforts for political reconciliation.

The statements come at a time when Pakistan’s political climate remains tense, and calls for democratic space and dialogue continue to grow louder from various quarters.
