Instagram’s Major Update: Live Streaming Restricted for Users Under 16, Parental Consent Required

Islamabad: Meta, the technology company behind Instagram, has rolled out a new update that restricts users under the age of 16 from using the live streaming feature on the platform. According to Meta, these users will now require parental consent to enable the feature.
In addition to this, the update introduces a new feature that automatically blurs suspicious images in direct messages for users under 16, but this too will need parental approval to be activated.
These changes are part of the extension of Instagram’s Teen Account system, which was introduced last September. The system automatically sets accounts for users under 16 to private, limits messaging options, and places the account under stricter content controls within Meta’s settings.
Meta further revealed that it is planning to roll out similar Teen Accounts for both Facebook and Facebook Messenger. Since September, approximately 54 million teen users worldwide have been transitioned to these accounts.
