Despite Ramadan Passing, Inflation Persists in Quetta with Skyrocketing Prices

In Quetta, the provincial capital, inflation continues to soar even after the conclusion of Ramadan, with prices remaining high and administrative controls being disregarded by shopkeepers. Despite the government’s set price rates, vendors have been charging customers exorbitant amounts, disregarding the official price list.

The price of chicken meat has surpassed 800 rupees per kilogram, while vegetables have seen significant price hikes. Some of the current prices in the market include spinach at 60 to 80 rupees per bundle, potatoes at 400 rupees for five kilograms, onions at 350 rupees for five kilograms, tomatoes at 70 rupees per kilogram, eggs at 300 rupees per dozen, pumpkin at 60 to 80 rupees, turnips at 70 rupees, peas at 150 to 200 rupees per kilogram, and bitter gourd at 120 to 150 rupees per kilogram.

Shopkeepers explain that the ongoing increase in prices is due to the closure of roads, which is causing delays in the timely delivery of food items, fruits, and vegetables to the market, leading to inflated prices. Citizens continue to express frustration over the lack of control over rising costs, urging the government to take stronger measures to curb inflation.
