Rise in Stroke Incidents in Ormara; Four Deaths Reported

ORMARA:The winter season in Ormara has seen a notable increase in stroke cases, with 14 individuals falling victim to strokes in the past two months. Sadly, four of them have lost their lives. The deceased individuals include two from the Islamia Lane area, one from Gazi Lane, and one from the nearby Bil area of Ormara.
According to Mohammad Hussain, a pharmacist at the Rural Health Center in Ormara, stroke incidents are common during the winter season, but this year, the cases have been significantly higher. Hussain urged the public to take precautionary measures to avoid strokes. He recommended maintaining a healthy diet, such as consuming fresh fruits, vegetables, and drinking plenty of water, controlling blood pressure, avoiding cold water for bathing, and wearing warm clothing to protect against the cold.
Local residents have expressed concern over the rising number of stroke cases this winter, as it is common for 2 to 4 people to suffer from strokes annually in Ormara. Additionally, many in the area are forced to drink brackish water, which could contribute to high blood pressure. Furthermore, the quality of water provided by the Public Health Engineering Department in Ormara is reportedly poor, with the salt content in the water being dangerously high. The total dissolved solids (TDS) level in the water has reached 2208 mg per liter, far exceeding the World Health Organization’s recommended TDS level of 600 mg per liter for safe drinking water. This salty water poses serious health risks.
Health experts suggest that strokes can be prevented with proper care and timely treatment. Cold weather, narrowed blood vessels, increased blood pressure, and blood clotting all contribute to the risk of a stroke. Experts emphasize that if symptoms such as sudden numbness on one side of the face, weakness in the arm or leg, difficulty speaking or understanding, dizziness, or loss of balance occur, immediate medical attention should be sought.
