Pakistan Enhances Freight Transport Capacity with Chinese Investment

Islamabad:Efforts are underway to reduce reliance on imports and promote direct foreign investment with the support of the SFIC (Special Foreign Investment Corporation). As part of these initiatives, Pakistan Railways has begun the production of modern freight wagons in collaboration with a Chinese company to increase transport capacity.
After the successful delivery of 200 wagons, the local manufacturing of an additional 620 wagons has now commenced. This project will not only enhance the country’s freight capabilities but also create 450 new jobs, providing training opportunities for young technicians.
Thanks to Chinese investment, the assembly of 115 flat wagons has been completed in Lahore, with their deployment expected in April. Meanwhile, the 115 modern wagons already produced in Risalpur have been deployed at the Karachi port, contributing to an increase in freight transport capacity.
With the backing of the SFIC and Chinese investment, Pakistan’s economy is moving toward greater economic independence.
