Punjab Transport Strike Ends After Successful Negotiations, Traffic Ordinance Enforcement Suspended

Lahore: The Pakistan Transport United Action Committee has called off its province-wide transport strike in Punjab after the government agreed to suspend the enforcement of the Traffic Ordinance.

The strike, which began late at night and continued until the afternoon, caused significant inconvenience for commuters and led to increased congestion at railway stations across the province.

In the afternoon, Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan held talks with committee chairman Ismatullah Niazi and members Tanveer Khan, Nabeel Mahmood, Malik Nadeem Hussain, and other representatives. The minister assured that the Traffic Ordinance would be temporarily suspended, no fines would be imposed, and a special committee would be formed to address the issues raised by the transporters.

Ismatullah Niazi confirmed that the strike was suspended based on the minister’s assurances, adding that commercial vehicle challans would not be issued and vehicles would not be impounded at police stations.

Meanwhile, Sher Ali Chaudhry, president of the Pakistan Mini Mazda Association, demanded that an official notification be issued to confirm the ordinance suspension, warning that the strike could resume if no formal notification is provided.
