Veteran Actress Jaya Bachchan Criticizes Akshay Kumar’s Film ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ Title

Mumbai:Bollywood’s senior actress Jaya Bachchan has recently criticized the title of Akshay Kumar’s 2017 film *Toilet: Ek Prem Katha*, calling it a “flop” film. Speaking on a popular Indian television show, Jaya questioned the film’s title, asking, “Who would go to see a film with such a title?” She further expressed her distaste, stating, “Just look at the name, *Toilet: Ek Prem Katha* — is this a name for a movie? I would never go to see such a film myself.”
Jaya then asked the audience how many would be interested in watching a film with such a title. When a few people raised their hands, she immediately remarked, “This film is a flop.”
*Toilet: Ek Prem Katha* is a 2017 comedy film directed by Shree Narayan Singh, starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in leading roles. The film focuses on promoting sanitation and the importance of toilets in rural India, addressing the issue of open defecation. The movie received positive reviews for its script and performances.
Despite Jaya Bachchan’s critique, the film was a commercial success both domestically and internationally, grossing approximately 311.5 crores worldwide. It also earned three nominations at the Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director (Shree Narayan Singh), and Best Actor (Akshay Kumar).
