Karachi:Police in Liaquatabad, Karachi, have apprehended a suspect who allegedly attempted to assault and murder a 6-year-old girl.
According to SSP Malir Kashif Aftab Abbasi, addressing a press conference at Liaquatabad police station, the suspect, Javaid Mumtaz, attempted to assault the 6-year-old girl. After committing the heinous act, the suspect threw the girl into a drain, presuming her dead.
He further elaborated that upon receiving information, police immediately rescued the girl from the drain and shifted her to a hospital for medical assistance. After the girl stabilized, police obtained information from her, which led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect, Javaid Mumtaz, within an hour from three different locations.
Police officials confirmed that during interrogation, the arrested suspect, Javaid Mumtaz, confessed to his crime.
Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho announced a reward of Rs. 100,000 and commendation certificates for the police team.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar praised SSP Malir and his team, announcing a reward of Rs. 200,000 for their swift action.
