If Balochistan Is Developing, Unfortunately Its Graveyards Are Also Expanding: Hafiz Hamdullah

QUETTA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) central leader Hafiz Hamdullah has expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation in Balochistan, saying that if the province’s present and future are linked to those of Pakistan, its current conditions raise serious questions about the country’s future.

In a statement, Hafiz Hamdullah said Balochistan was facing a range of serious challenges, including deaths, missing persons, security operations, bomb blasts, disruptions to highways and trade, obstacles to business activities, shortages of gas and electricity, and disputes over control of mineral resources and the province’s coastline.

He said these issues had created widespread anxiety and uncertainty among the people of Balochistan.

According to Hamdullah, incidents involving the burning of transport vehicles, drone attacks and attacks on police stations and other locations were also affecting ordinary citizens, including women and children, while a persistent atmosphere of fear and uncertainty prevailed across the province.

He said claims of development in Balochistan were one thing, but the ground reality was that people from both Baloch and Pashtun communities continued to lose their lives.

“If Balochistan is developing, unfortunately its graveyards are also expanding,” Hamdullah said, stressing that the people remained deprived of peace, security and basic facilities.

He warned that if the situation continued, questions about the province’s future would become increasingly serious.

Hamdullah said sustainable peace and stability in Balochistan were essential for Pakistan’s overall development and prosperity.

He called for serious consideration of the province’s bloodshed and demanded that the grievances and concerns of the people be addressed.

The JUI leader emphasised that peace in Balochistan was directly linked to peace and stability across Pakistan and urged the authorities to take effective measures to protect citizens and restore stability in the province.
