All Trains Cannot Be Upgraded Within One Year: Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi

MULTAN: Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has said that it is not possible to upgrade all trains within one year, while the government is working on reforms to improve the performance of Pakistan Railways.

Speaking to the media in Multan, Hanif Abbasi said reforms had been introduced in the railways and efforts were underway to address existing shortcomings.

He said several trains, including the Karakoram Express and Millat Express, were being upgraded, while work on other trains was also in progress.

The federal minister said Pakistan Railways had increased its revenue from Rs88 billion to Rs115 billion, while income from leasing had been raised from Rs8 billion to Rs16 billion.

Hanif Abbasi said the railway track from Rohri to Karachi would be upgraded, while work would also be carried out on the track from Rohri to Multan.

He added that the federal government had also held discussions with the provinces regarding measures to improve Pakistan Railways.

The minister stressed that upgrading the entire railway system would take time and could not be completed within a single year.
