Imran Khan Being Kept in Solitary Confinement and Subjected to Mental Torture Like Morsi, Alleges Sister Dr Uzma

ISLAMABAD: Dr Uzma Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, has made serious allegations regarding his treatment in Adiala Jail, claiming that he is being kept in solitary confinement and subjected to severe mental distress.

Addressing a press conference, Dr Uzma said she met Imran Khan after 10 months and claimed that he was himself surprised by the meeting.

She alleged that Imran Khan was taken to an unknown location late at night and was first taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and then to Shifa International Hospital under the cover of darkness.

According to Dr Uzma, the Supreme Court had issued clear directions for Imran Khan to undergo a comprehensive medical examination. However, she alleged that the orders were not properly implemented and that only his eyes were examined at the hospital before he was taken back to jail.

Dr Uzma further claimed that Imran Khan told her he was being treated in a manner similar to that faced by former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi. She alleged that he had been deprived of reading material, television and normal human contact.

She also claimed that Imran Khan’s health deteriorated in July, when he experienced head pain and an unusually rapid heartbeat, but alleged that jail doctors did not pay adequate attention to his condition or provide proper treatment.

Dr Uzma also expressed serious concerns over the alleged solitary confinement of former first lady Bushra Bibi.

The allegations come amid controversy over Imran Khan’s recent medical examination and his transfer between hospitals before being taken back to Adiala Jail. Government officials, however, have said that a qualified team of doctors examined him and declared him medically fit.
