Major Customs Crackdown at Ziarat Cross: 122kg Silver, 277 Mobile Phones Seized from Passenger Bus
QUETTA: Customs authorities have foiled an alleged smuggling attempt at the Ziarat Cross Customs Check Post, recovering 122 kilograms of silver, 277 mobile phones and five Lenovo tablets from a passenger bus.
According to sources, customs officials intercepted passenger bus No. CBG-1949 at the Ziarat Cross Customs Check Post following credible information and conducted a search.
During the search, officials recovered 122 silver bars, each weighing one kilogram, with a combined weight of 122 kilograms. The purity and final value of the silver will be determined after laboratory testing. Its preliminary value has been estimated at approximately Rs73.2 million.
Officials also recovered 277 used mobile phones of various brands, including 166 Poco, 76 Xiaomi, 27 LG and eight Huawei handsets. The preliminary value of the mobile phones has been estimated at around Rs16.2 million.
Five Lenovo tablets were also recovered, with an initial estimated value of approximately Rs150,000.
Customs authorities seized the Daewoo passenger bus used to transport the goods. The bus, bearing registration number CBG-1949, has an estimated preliminary value of around Rs10 million.
According to customs officials, the combined preliminary value of the seized goods and the bus is approximately Rs100 million.
The final value and other details will be determined after laboratory testing of the silver and completion of the legal process.
Customs authorities said further operations would continue to prevent smuggling and curb the illegal transportation of goods.
