Facial Recognition Attendance Introduced in Sindh Schools to Curb Teacher Absenteeism
KARACHI: The Sindh School Education Department has launched a facial recognition-based attendance system for teachers and non-teaching staff in government schools across the province, aimed at curbing absenteeism and ensuring regular attendance.
The pilot phase of the Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System has started in six districts: Karachi East, Hyderabad, Naushehro Feroze, Jacobabad, Ghotki and Umerkot.
Under the system, the attendance of 49,565 teaching and non-teaching employees will be monitored through facial recognition technology.
Officials said teachers would be able to mark their attendance through the application using any mobile phone. The system will also allow attendance to be recorded without an internet connection. Once internet connectivity is restored, the attendance data will automatically be synchronized with the central system.
Both arrival and departure times at schools will be mandatory entries in the system. Teachers will also be able to view their attendance records through the application.
The system will further allow teachers to download their monthly attendance records and submit leave applications online.
Officials added that administrative officers, school heads and teachers had already been trained in the use of the application before the pilot phase was launched.
