Heavy Rain Inundates Low-Lying Areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad

RAWALPINDI:Torrential rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad inundated several low-lying areas, while the water level in Nullah Lai reached 17 feet at the Kattarian point.
The heavy downpour brought both cities to a standstill, with Golra receiving 144 millimetres of rain and Bokra recording 132mm.
According to rainfall data, 105mm was recorded in Pirwadhai, 77mm in Gowalmandi, 60mm in Kachahri and 41mm in Shamsabad.
The water flow at Gowalmandi Bridge rose to 15 feet following the heavy rainfall. Water also entered homes in Dhok Khabba and Sadiqabad, causing difficulties for residents.
The district administration has advised people living near Nullah Lai to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for upper and central parts of the country from today until August 21.
According to the Met Office, rainfall is expected in Islamabad, upper Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
The Flood Forecasting Division in Lahore said low-level flooding has been reported in the Indus River at Tarbela Dam, Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa and Guddu Barrage. The situation in other rivers across the country remains normal.
