SSGC Clarifies Gas Leak Complaints in Karachi, Says Odour Caused by Pipeline Testing
Karachi: Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has issued a clarification after receiving complaints of a gas smell from various areas of Karachi, stating that there is no actual gas leak in the system.
According to an SSGC spokesperson, a newly installed gas pipeline on Abu Al Hasan Isphahani Road underwent testing on Saturday. During the testing process, a higher-than-normal quantity of the odorizing chemical used to detect natural gas was added, resulting in a noticeable gas smell in surrounding areas.
The spokesperson said that all system pressure levels remain normal and that no gas leakage has been reported.
SSGC assured consumers that the smell was solely the result of the additional odorant used during pipeline testing and urged the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities without concern.
