Women Play an Unforgettable Role in Punjab’s Development; Police Uniform Represents a Great Responsibility, Says Maryam Nawaz
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that women are playing a prominent role in Punjab’s development, governance, law enforcement, and administrative affairs, adding that a police uniform is not merely a dress but a symbol of public service, justice, and fulfilling one’s duty to the nation.
Addressing the Punjab Police Passing-Out Parade ceremony, the Chief Minister said she was proud that more than 1,100 female cadets were joining the police force, while over 4,000 women are already serving in various capacities within the Punjab Police.
“As the first woman Chief Minister of Punjab, it is a matter of great pride for me that Punjab has emerged as the leading province in empowering women,” she said. “Punjab is not only progressing in governance and modern technology but is also at the forefront of providing leadership opportunities to women.”
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that women are now serving in key institutions, including the Punjab Police, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), the cabinet, parliament, district administration, as commissioners, district police officers (DPOs), and within the judiciary.
She emphasized that no force can stop the progress of a society in which women—who make up 51 percent of the population—actively contribute to development and nation-building.
Addressing the graduating female police personnel, the Chief Minister praised their determination and professional commitment, noting that participating in the parade while carrying heavy equipment in extreme weather conditions reflected their courage and resilience.
She said that the police uniform represents far more than clothing; it symbolizes a great responsibility, a sacred duty, and a debt owed to the homeland—one that must be repaid through service to the people, adherence to the law, and the delivery of justice.
Maryam Nawaz urged the newly inducted female officers to perform their duties with honesty, courage, and a spirit of public service, and to further enhance the reputation and professionalism of the Punjab Police.
