YouTube Introduces Long-Requested Thumbnail Tool for Shorts Creators

KARACHI: YouTube has introduced a new feature that makes it easier for creators to customize thumbnails for their Shorts, responding to a long-standing request from users.
The new tool allows eligible creators to upload custom thumbnail images for their Shorts, helping them make their videos more eye-catching and improve audience engagement.
For now, the feature is available only to creators enrolled in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), meaning users who monetize their content on the platform.
In addition, creators will be able to edit the thumbnails of previously uploaded videos through YouTube Studio on desktop computers and laptops.
According to YouTube, the feature will be expanded to more users in the near future.
On desktop, creators can choose one of three suggested frames as a thumbnail for their videos. While this option has long been available for standard-length videos, it is now being introduced for YouTube Shorts as well.
On the mobile app, creators will continue to have the option of selecting any frame from a video as its thumbnail.
YouTube also said that its thumbnail suggestions will be generated based on the video’s content, theme, and overall style, making it easier for creators to choose visually appealing cover images.
