Ex-MPA Allegedly Assaulted by Police in Lahore; Inquiry Ordered

Lahore: An inquiry has been ordered into allegations of police assault on a former female Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) in Lahore. The city’s DIG Operations has directed that the investigation be completed within 48 hours, instructing authorities to examine all available evidence, including video footage, related to the alleged incident.
A Lahore Police spokesperson confirmed that the inquiry has been initiated. The spokesperson stated that other allegations are unfounded. According to the police, the former MPA’s son was arrested for gambling at a snooker club, along with 12 other individuals, two days ago. The spokesperson added that the snooker club and the other arrested individuals had prior records related to gambling.
The spokesperson further clarified that one of the former MPA’s sons had tragically died last month in a motorcycle accident, and linking the recent arrest to pressure related to that case is baseless. The statement also claimed that the former MPA and her husband attempted to pressure police officers to secure their son’s release and engaged in aggressive behavior during the incident.
The statement concluded by emphasizing that, under the orders of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the law applies equally to everyone, and it is regrettable to circulate unverified, one-sided news.
