Federal Government Decides to Immediately Import One Million Tonnes of Wheat to Meet Provincial Demand

Islamabad: The federal government has decided to immediately import one million tonnes of wheat to meet the requirements of the provinces and ensure the availability of affordable and quality wheat across the country.

According to Express News, the decision was taken after detailed consultations between the federal government and all provincial administrations regarding wheat availability, prices, and supply conditions. By mutual consensus, it was agreed that the wheat stocks currently held by the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) will be released immediately in accordance with the provinces’ requirements.

It was further decided that, since the combined demand of the provinces exceeds PASSCO’s available wheat reserves, one million tonnes of wheat will be imported without delay to fulfill domestic needs and maintain stability in the market.

Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain said that the government remains committed to ensuring the provision of affordable and quality wheat to the public. He stated that PASSCO’s wheat stocks would be supplied promptly to the provinces based on their respective needs.

Rana Tanveer Hussain added that the immediate import of one million tonnes of wheat will help meet the country’s requirements and contribute to maintaining stability in wheat supplies and prices in the domestic market.
