Trump Imposes 50% Tariffs on Several Canadian Products

WASHINGTON:U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing a **50% tariff** on a range of Canadian products, with the new duties set to take effect within the next 30 days.

According to U.S. media reports, the tariffs will apply to several Canadian exports, including **wine, hockey-related products, and cement**.

President Trump claimed that Canada has maintained discriminatory trade practices against American alcohol, automobiles, and dairy products, arguing that the new tariffs are intended to protect U.S. industries and ensure fair trade.

The Trump administration has cited a provision of the **Tariff Act of 1930** as the legal basis for the move.

Canadian Prime Minister **Mark Carney** criticized the decision, calling it a unilateral action that undermines fair trade. He reiterated that Canada remains committed to free and transparent trade and is prepared to continue negotiations with the United States to resolve the months-long trade dispute.

However, Carney also warned that Canada would take all necessary measures to protect its economic interests and strengthen its position in response to the new tariffs.
