Hasan Ali’s Wife Breaks Silence After False Claims of Assault in India Go Viral
Karachi: Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali and his family have dismissed viral social media claims alleging that the cricketer was assaulted in India after being caught pickpocketing on a train, calling the reports completely false and misleading.
The controversy began when a video circulated on several Indian social media pages, claiming that Hasan Ali had been beaten by passengers in India. However, the individual shown in the video is reportedly a different person and bears little resemblance to the Pakistani cricketer.
Responding to the rumours, Hasan Ali’s wife, Samiya Khan, clarified that the couple has not visited India in the past three years.
“We have not been to India for the last three years,” she said, urging both Pakistani and Indian electronic, social, and digital media platforms to verify facts before publishing or sharing news.
In an Instagram story, Samiya Khan expressed disappointment over the rapid spread of unverified information, stating that people in both countries often believe and share false news without checking its authenticity.
“It is sad that people so easily believe and spread fake news,” she wrote. “It has been three years since we visited India. It seems people there miss us a lot and are simply looking for excuses to invite us back.”
The viral claims also prompted criticism from Pakistani social media users, many of whom pointed out that the person featured in the video does not resemble Hasan Ali. Several users accused certain social media pages of irresponsibly spreading misinformation without verification.
Hasan Ali is one of Pakistan’s most accomplished fast bowlers and was a key member of the national team that won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017. His match-winning spell of 3 wickets for 19 runs against India in the tournament’s final remains one of the highlights of his international career.
He also delivered an impressive five-wicket haul against South Africa during Pakistan’s 2021 Test series and has remained an active performer in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The right-arm pacer recently made his return to the national side.
Hasan Ali married Indian national Samiya Khan in 2019, and the couple has three daughters.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over the spread of misinformation on social media and the importance of verifying viral content before sharing it online.
