Government, Ziarat Protest Committee Reach Eight-Point Agreement to End Sit-in

QUETTA: Negotiations between the Ziarat Dharna Committee and the Balochistan government have reportedly concluded successfully, with both sides agreeing on an eight-point accord aimed at addressing key security and governance issues. According to sources, the agreement is expected to be formally signed shortly.

The reported agreement includes the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate recent terrorist incidents. Sources said the Balochistan government will send a formal request to the Balochistan High Court for the commission’s formation.

Under the proposed agreement, the provincial government has also agreed to take strict action against terrorist organizations, armed groups, and other elements involved in disrupting peace. A high-level committee, to be headed by the Chief Minister of Balochistan, is expected to oversee these efforts.

The issue of the Levies Force, including its merger with the police or possible restoration, will be discussed with political parties and other stakeholders. According to sources, an All Parties Conference (APC) will be convened within 15 days. If consensus is not reached, the matter will be referred to the Balochistan Assembly for a vote.

The agreement also reportedly includes measures to strengthen policing in urban areas by increasing personnel, providing modern resources, and enhancing the operational capacity of the police force to improve law and order.

Sources further stated that a committee will be established to review disputed land allotments in Ziarat, Manghi Dam, and surrounding areas. Any illegal or controversial allotments will reportedly be canceled, while the rights of local residents will be protected.

The agreement also provides for compensation packages for the families of martyrs, police personnel, and other victims, including financial assistance, educational support for children, employment opportunities, and other benefits under the government’s martyrs’ package.

In addition, some government buildings, checkpoints, and other important public sites are expected to be named in honor of the martyrs of Ziarat.

According to the sources, both parties have pledged to implement the agreement in full. Following its formal signing, the protest committee is expected to announce an end to the sit-in, after which the burial of the deceased victims will proceed.
