Allama Tahir Ashrafi Says Saudi King Salman and Pakistan’s Army Chief Are Huffaz of the Holy Quran
KARACHI: Chairman of the National Peace Committee, Allama Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, has said that among the Islamic countries, one king and one military commander are Huffaz (memorizers) of the Holy Quran, referring to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Addressing a gathering during his visit to Jamia-tur-Rasheed in Karachi, Allama Tahir Ashrafi stated that despite this distinction, some people continue to criticize Pakistan and its institutions.
He said that Allah Almighty has bestowed upon Pakistan and Saudi Arabia the honor of serving and protecting the Two Holy Mosques, adding that Muslims should reflect on the significance of this responsibility.
Ashrafi also spoke about Pakistan’s Constitution, noting that its Islamic provisions were carefully debated and drafted by some of the country’s most respected religious scholars, including Mufti Mahmood, Professor Ghafoor Ahmad, Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani, Mufti Jafar Hussain, Maulana Abdul Haq, and Maulana Ghulam Ghaus Hazarvi.
He recalled that the late Maulana Sami-ul-Haq often emphasized that every clause of the Constitution of Pakistan was thoroughly discussed before its adoption. According to Ashrafi, it is therefore incorrect to describe Pakistan’s Constitution as un-Islamic. He added that, when compared with the constitutions of other Muslim-majority countries, Pakistan’s Constitution holds a prominent position with respect to Islamic provisions.
Highlighting the message of the National Peace Committee, he said, “Do not abandon your own school of thought, but do not interfere with that of others,” stressing the need to discourage sectarianism and religious discord in the country.

Paying tribute to the nation’s martyrs, Allama Tahir Ashrafi mentioned the sacrifices of prominent religious scholars, including Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, Maulana Habibullah Mukhtar, and Maulana Adil Khan. He said that the spirit of martyrdom cannot be bought and that Pakistan’s soldiers willingly sacrifice their lives in defense of the country, while their mothers send them off with pride and prayers.
He emphasized that preserving Pakistan’s unity is a collective responsibility and called for greater solidarity among Muslim nations. According to Ashrafi, the growing unity within the Muslim world has prevented certain international agendas, particularly those attributed to Israel’s regional ambitions, from succeeding.
He urged the Muslim Ummah to further strengthen mutual cooperation, unity, and harmony for the betterment of the Islamic world.
