Balochistan to Dissolve All Local Government Bodies on February 8, 2027

QUETTA: The Government of Balochistan has issued an official notification announcing that all elected local government institutions across the province will be dissolved on February 8, 2027, upon the completion of their tenure.
Under the decision approved by the provincial cabinet, the offices of Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and members of Municipal Corporations, Municipal Committees, District Councils, and Union Councils will cease to exist from the specified date.
According to the notification issued on July 9, 2026, by the Local Government, Rural Development and Agro Villages Department (Balochistan Local Councils Election Cell), the decision was taken during the provincial cabinet meeting held on June 12, 2026.
The notification, bearing No. 5-97/2025-26 (BLCEC) 10356-504, states that the dissolution of the local government bodies is being carried out under Section 26 of the Balochistan Local Government Act, 2010.
The notification will be published in the next issue of the Balochistan Gazette and has already been circulated among all relevant authorities for necessary action.
The development is being seen as a major transition in Balochistan’s local government system. However, the provincial government has yet to announce a timeline for fresh local government elections or any interim administrative arrangements following the dissolution of the elected bodies.
Official documents further state that the notification is based on the provincial cabinet’s final decision, and all concerned departments have been directed to ensure its implementation.
